Seasonal Pastry Prep Cook Overview: We are seeking a seasonal Pastry Prep Cook for the holiday season who is a team player, has kitchen experience (pastry experience would be a plus!), hasa passion for practicing and evolving their craft, and has a desire to learn as our young bakery/cafe ‘rises’. ARE YOU THE RIGHT PERSON Team driven/oriented Excellent communicator Detail Oriented Motivated by professional excellence Evaluating product for expected quality standards Suggesting/Making process or condition changes to achieve expected quality standards This is a seasonal part-time, hourly position at the bakery/café on Main Street, Redwood City, CA. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES Min.1-2 years of kitchen experience, preferrably in a pastry position Knowledge of lamination is a plus but not required Willingness and passion to learn the process. Mis en place, scaling, other prep Mixing various doughs and batters Bread mixing, shaping, baking also a plus but we are willing to train the right candidate. Ability to monitor food quality and presentation, adhering to health and safety regulations to uphold cleanliness and sanitation standards- clean up! Including but not limited to: washing dishes, sweeping, mopping. Team player, pitch in where needed Authorization to work in the United States Current California Food Handlers Certificate, or obtain within 30 days of hire Great sense of humor with a large dose of humility Curiosity to learn and understand new(er) things ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES Fluency in basic math skills and baker’s percentage math Ability to stand working for long periods of time, up to 8 hrs Ability to lift/push/manipulate items weighing a minimum of 50 pounds on a regular basis Ability to act with composure and grace in fast-paced environment Ability to work at least30 hours per week, including weekends and some holidays Ability to display and follow ethical and professional standards set by The Baker Next Door Be well groomed and maintain proper hygiene Ability to communicate in basic English Act with integrity and honesty to promote the culture, values and mission of The Baker Next Door, i.e., create kick-ass products and treat customers and fellow team members with the highest degree of respect and consideration.
